A gift with a difference ....

This is not an encouragement or recommendation to buy gold (personally I don’t even think gold’s a very good investment) but it does have at least one big attraction over almost every other financial investment – you can see it, you can touch it, you can carry it from one place to another, you can show it off to your friends.

I’m not talking about gold jewellery.

No, I’m talking about pure gold that you can handle.

Unlike money in building society accounts, Premium Bonds, unit trusts and investment bonds with gold you get something very tangible for your money.

It’s easy to buy (and sell) and it comes in many forms but most usually as gold coins such as Britanias, sovereigns, Krugerrands and many other speciality currencies –for example you can buy American Gold Eagle coins.

For real effect you can buy gold bars as seen in Goldfinger and the Italian Job (although not quite as large probably!).

And it’s not as expensive as you might think – for under £1,000 you can get up to an ounce of pure gold which is enough to create a hefty coin or a gold bullion bar about half the size of a credit card.

How about giving your children and grandchildren a gift with a difference.
