Cash - let's get rid of it!!

Coins have been in use for over 2,600 years and bank notes for over 1,000 years – surely it’s time we got rid of cash.

What do we use it for anyway that can’t be paid some other way – how many businesses, shops, pubs, garages etc are there that don’t offer some other means of payment like debit or credit cards.

All household and utility bills can now be paid by Direct Debit or some other form of electronic transfer – in fact there are very few day-to-day bills that can be paid by cash.

In these days of Money Laundering you cannot simply walk into a car showroom and hand over bundles of cash to buy your car and, in fact, you would be regarded as dodgy or at least with a high degree of wariness if you even tried it.

Now think of the benefits of getting rid of cash!

No “black” economy, no shady cash deals, no counterfeit notes – how would a drug dealer operate if you had to offer your Debit Card to pay for a bag of cocaine?

You wouldn’t have to stand at a cash machine looking over your shoulder wondering who is watching you or whether the cash machine has been “fixed”.

No more grubby £5 notes that have probably been handled by 50 people before you.

I’m trying hard to think of anything that you have to pay with cash and the only two things I can think of are ice creams from the ice cream van and fairgrounds – any more?
